Athens & Istanbul City Break

Athens

First time visitors to Athens are torn between the remnants of the old and those of the new world, between the gods and the shops of Plaka, between the ancient art and the green covered terraces. Returning visitors enjoy all of both worlds, as do the Athenians themselves. Athens has a lot to offer and even more to enjoy.

Say "Athens" and people will say "The Acropolis". Yes, of course, you should not leave Athens without having visited the Acropolis with its splendid Parthenon, Erechteion, Temple of Athena etc. However, Athens has much more to offer. The Ancient and the Roman Agora, Plaka, the romantic Anafiotika area, the Panathenaic Stadium, Lykavittos and Philopappou Hill, the tens of museums, Psirri, Syntagma, Monastiraki etc. There is a lot to see in Athens and it is worth while seeing it. With every corner you turn, Athens will surprise you with its history and its special atmosphere.

During your stay in Athens we have arranged some fabulous tours to the main sites of interest.

Athens City Tour

This tour gives you an opportunity to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens such a fascinating city. Our expert guides will take you to see the Panathenaic Stadium where the first Olympic Games of modern times were held in 1896 (short stop). Pass by the Presidential residence (ex Royal Palace) guarded by the Euzones in their colorful uniform, the Temple of the Olympian Zeus, the Hadrian's Arch, the Parliament and the memorial to the Unknown Soldier, the Academy, the University, the National Library, and the Constitution Square (Syntagma).

In the Acropolis visit the Architectural Masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and finally "the harmony between material and spirit," the monument that "puts order in the mind," the Parthenon.

Istanbul

Istanbul is the only city in the world to be built on two continents and a city break to Istanbul offers a fantastic combination of Eastern and Western culture. Turkey's largest city is a wonderful destination for an exciting city break holiday.

Istanbul’s history stretches back more than 2,500 years, yet it still has a modern and vibrant feel. Ancient palaces and wonderful-looking Islamic mosques can be found, as well as European-style bars and shops. Although home to around 10 million people, Istanbul doesn't feel too hectic or overcrowded, thanks to its unique location on either side of the banks of the River Bosphorus.

Our carefully chosen hotels for your city break are based in Sultanahmet, on the southern half of the city's European side. You will be within strolling distance of the major historical sites. Istanbul's most famous attraction, the enchanting Blue Mosque, faces the ancient basilica, Hagia Sophia and just around the corner is the immense 15th-century Topkapi Palace. You can also vist the Maiden's Tower made famous by the James Bond Film - "The World is Not Enough", which is now a popular restaurant easily accessible by a short boat trip.

There are few places better for the complete shopping experience than Istanbul, where modern shopping centres and centuries-old markets stand side by side. One of the most exciting places to shop is the Grand Bazaar, which is great for silk, jewellery and carpets, and the Spice Bazaar, which is the best place to try Turkish Delight.

The Galata Tower, built in 1348, is the main feature of the northern part of the European side of Istanbul and great for views of the Golden Horn, the small stretch of water which divides the European part of the city in two. The winding back-streets around here house a number of hammams (Turkish baths) where you can enjoy a bone-cracking Turkish massage.

You'd be crazy not to make use of the city's excellent ferry services if on a city break holiday in Istanbul. One wonderful day trip is a ferry ride along the length of the Bosphorus, right up to the Black Sea and back down to the Sea of Marmara. You get to stop off for lunch and still return in time for dinner.

Istanbul City Tour

Tour the Sultan Ahmet Center of Istanbul, the heart of the Old City from where the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires ruled.

On this tour, you will visit the Byzantine and Ottoman relics in Istanbul, including:

Hagia Sophia, one of the greatest marvels of architecture, constructed as a basilica in the 6th century by Emperor Justinian.

Blue Mosque, facing Hagia Sophia, famous for its blue Iznik tiles and unique with 6 minarets, built in the name of Sultan Ahmet.

Hippodrome, center of sporting events (chariot races, athletics) and political activities of the old city. The Serpentine Column, the Obelisk of Theodosius and the German Fountain of Wilhelm II are the monuments decorating the Hippodrome.

Grand Covered Bazaar, the most attractive shopping center and the biggest "souk" in the world with nearly 4000 shops selling antiques, jewelry, gold, carpets, leatherware and souvenirs.

Topkapi Palace, residence of Ottoman Sultans exhibiting imperial treasury, sacred Islamic relics, kitchen, Chinese porcelain, weapons, calligraphy section etc. Your guide will give you free time to go around the palace.

Rüstem Pasa Mosque, designed by the court architect Sinan for the Grand Vizier of Süleyman the Magnificent. A typical sample of Islamic architecture amidst the rows of shops near the Spice Bazaar, famed with its exquisite and colourful tiles set in floral and geometric designs.

Remember - We're always Happy to Help!

There are so many different options available for any particular holiday that provide opportunitie for a more cost effective price or upgrades with certain hotels that you might miss out on a better deal.

We strongly believe that a real person is better able to make intuitive decisions about a holiday enquiry than a computer programme that will not have the same dedication or commitment to providing the best possible service.

ALSO, why should you waste your time searching for a great deal when we can do it for you - with a personal touch. Rest assured, you will always be dealing with a real live person and you will have direct contact with the same person all the time. You will never have to deal with an anonymous person in a call centre.

It is our absolute, number one, priority to ensure that you are happy with the details of your holiday before you book and it is important that you have the time to do this.

It is also important to remember, however, that prices change all the time (particularly the cost of flights) and it is with this in mind, that we would urge you to try and confirm the booking as soon as possible. We will provide a quote according to your enquiry for the best prices on the day. Communication is the key to getting the best deal and we will work to ensure that we respond to your requests as quickly as possible to guarantee the best prices for you.

Yes, of course.

If you have heard about a certain hotel or you have a particular hotel in mind where you would like to stay, simply let us know if the "Comments" section at the end of the online Enquiry Form (Enquire Now) and we will be pleased to check availability and include this in your quote.

The simple answer is "...just let us know."

We have tens of thousands of hotels available to us throughout the world and we fully accept that we might occassionally select a hotel that doesn't quite meet your requirements. You might prefer a different location or have in mind a particular hotel in mind that you would like to stay at. Simply drop us a line and we will look for alternative options that better meet what you are looking for

It is impossible for us to send you a quote for every possible hotel option so we usually provide a choice of two or three different hotels in each quote. We are always happy to provide you with other choices and the more information you can give us will help us in finding that sought after hotel that is "Just Right".

Payments

We have several very simple and straightforward methods available for receiving payment.

The most popular method is for us to give you a quick call, answer any final questions you might have, and take a debit or credit card payment. If you prefer, we are able to send you a Client Paymet Form that can be completed and emailed back to us.

We are also able to take payments by direct bank tansfer and would be pleased to send you our bank details on request.

As soon as we have received payment of your deposit, we will immediately begin confirming all the relevant flights, accommodation, tours and any other services.

Once your initial documentation becomes available in the booking system (usally within two hours of receiving your deposit) we will email this to you.

Your initial documents will usually include a Receipt, Confirmation of Booking, Flight Confirmations and Confirmation of Accommodation Reservations.

Occasionally, emails which contain attachments can be delayed or filtered out by your email provider. If you have not received your documents from us within 24 hrs, please let us know and we can resend them.

Things to Do
